Savta Mazal's Chraime

Savta Mazal’s Chraime

My grandmother used to serve this in her home every Friday night and my father used to make it almost every Shabbat when I was growing up. While I don’t have the chance to make it every week, I do love every chance I get to make it!

2 tbsp oil

1 large shallot, sliced

5 cloves garlic, minced

3 tbsp tomato paste

1/2 tsp kosher salt

1/2 tsp black pepper

1 tsp cumin

2 cups tomato sauce

2 tbsp lemon juice

4-6 salmon filets

Fresh parsley

Heat the oil in a pan. Sauté the shallot in the pan until soft. Then add the garlic and tomato paste and cook for about 1 minute. Add the salt, pepper, and cumin. Heat until fragrant. Add the tomato sauce and lemon juice. Stir well and then allow simmer for about 10 minutes. Then add the salmon. Make sure it is covered in the sauce and then cover and cook for 15-20 minutes.

Sprinkle with fresh parsley. Can be served hot or at room temperature.
