Bubbe’s Bowl
FISH, NOT FOUL
It’s time to give gefilte fish the credit it deserves. This much-maligned dish has suffered mainly because most people have only tasted the store-bought, jarred kind. But one bite of my homemade version will change your mind—you’ll never go back to the jar again.
This is my Bubbe’s recipe, which I learned by making it with her. In the video, titled “Bubbe’s Bowl” and named after a family heirloom, you’ll even catch a glimpse of a treasured photo featuring four generations—my Bubbe, my mom, my son, and me—making gefilte fish together.
While it may look intimidating, as you’ll see, with two adorable grandchildren as sous chefs, anything is possible. The real secret ingredient? The joy and love that comes from carrying on a delicious family tradition.
