The Great Bubby Cook Off – Contest Details and Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How do I enter the contest?

A: Go to our Bubby Contest Submission page! Fill out the form with your information and a link to your video. That’s it! (Please make sure your video settings allow the public to view it or we won’t be able to include it in the voting.) The videos will all go live at the same time after the submission deadline has passed, when the voting page opens. We will email you to let you know when voting is live.

Q: Can I enter more than once?

A: No, one entry per person. Please submit your best work! If you realize after submitting that you made a mistake and want to correct the error, you may do so by emailing us your request, until the contest submission deadline passes (July 14, 11:59PM ET). We do not guarantee that we will be able to make further changes after the voting goes live, so please review your entry carefully before submitting.

Q: Can I enter if I live outside the United States?

A: We love that Bubby energy all over the world! Unfortunately, at this time, the contest is open to residents of the United States only. Anyone can vote, though!

Q: Do I have to be a real Bubby to enter?

A: Not at all! “Bubby” is a vibe. If you cook with heart, tradition, and a little chutzpah, you’re welcome here- no grandchildren required. No senior citizen discount card needed either- any woman can enter if she is over age 18.

Q: What kind of dish should I make?

A: Any Jewish dish that’s meaningful to you. It can be a holiday classic, a Friday night favorite, or even your own twist on tradition. Sweet, savory, Ashkenazi, Sephardi, Mizrahi—it’s all welcome!

Q: What should be in the video?

A: We want to see you in your element! Show us how you make your dish—talk us through your steps, tell us the story behind it, and don’t forget to show the finished result. Think fun, flavorful, and full of personality.

Q: How long should the video be?

A: Aim for 2–5 minutes. Long enough to show your process and personality, short enough to keep viewers engaged. We’re not looking for Food Network polish—just real people and real food.

Q: Can I film on my phone?

A: Absolutely! Smartphone videos are perfectly fine. Just make sure we can hear you and see the food. Natural lighting and a smile go a long way.

Q: Are there any requirements for what I should wear?

A: We respectfully request that you dress in a modest fashion, no low-cut necklines, sleeves that cover the upper arm, no shorts, or other revealing styles. We want everyone to feel comfortable sharing and watching the videos in their homes with their families, no matter their level of religious observance.

Q: What if I don’t want my video posted online?

A: Part of the contest is public voting, so submissions must be shared on Kosher.com and possibly other platforms. If you’re not comfortable with that, this may not be the right contest for you—no hard feelings!

Q: What happens if I’m chosen as a finalist?

A: The top 4 vote-getters will come to New York City (we’ll cover airfare and accommodations!) for the live final cook-off. (Or possibly New Jersey, but close enough.) You’ll compete in person, meet the other contestants, and have the time of your life.

Q: What if I keep kosher? Will ingredients at the final be kosher?

A: 100%! The final event will be fully kosher and respectful of all kashrut needs. Let us know any dietary restrictions and we’ll make sure you’re taken care of.

Q: Can kids enter?

A: You must be at least 18 years old to enter. But if you’re a parent or grandparent who cooks with your little helpers, feel free to include them in your video—they’ll win everyone’s hearts! (Make sure the kids, their parents, and everyone involved has given permission for the participants to appear online, of course.)

Q: How will I know if I’ve been selected?

A: We’ll contact you directly via email if you’ve been selected for the next round. Be sure to add hello (at) kosher.com to your safe senders list so you don’t miss any updates!

Q: When is the deadline to enter?

A: All entries must be received by July 1, 2025, 11:59PM ET. Don’t wait until the last minute—Bubby never did!

Q: What are the prizes?

A: The winner will be crowned Bubby 2025, go on a victory lap with the Manischewitz Food Truck around NYC, and receive a fabulous prize package. Plus: eternal bragging rights.

Q: I still have a question. Who can I contact?

A: We’re here for you! Send your questions to hello (at) kosher.com and we’ll get back to you as soon as we finish this pot of soup.
